Summer Learning Facts

Canada Facts Sheet
  • Canada is listed to be the second largest country in the world, after Russia.
  • Usually in Canada, Police officers will give out 'positive' tickets if they catch someone doing something good.
  • Niagara falls are home to Canada, as they have massive waterfalls.

Summer Learning

Canada

I chose Canada because I would really like to visit the country because it seems very cultural. I would like to visit the different landmarks in Canada because they look very different to the New Zealand landmarks. I would also like to visit Canada because of the attractive scenic.

Completing my Goals

These were the goals I set up for myself in term three or at the start of term four. This was for my excellence and innovation. I tried so hard to achieve them this whole term, and I finally have. I have recently posted 400 blog posts in total, and have approximately 50 blog posts for this term. I have also presented, I presented the Library trip the librarians of Panmure Bridge school went to. I have also read three novels, this was also a task from my excellence and innovation CARE badge, I made a book review for the three books for proof that I have read them. Next year, I hope I have bigger goals.

Head Girl Speeches

Thank you for nominating me for such a prestigious role in Panmure Bridge. As you may know, my name is Nazella. Being a leader of Panmure Bridge school has been my goal ever since I saw Fine presenting on stage, I have been nominated for being head girl and believe that I will make a perfect head leader. But what entitles me to this position, you may ask?
I am confident, hard-working and passionate girl ,with an aim to not only drive forward, but to ensure that my fellow peers are driving with me to a journey to greatness. I mean, isn’t that what this school looks towards, ‘striving to achieve?’ More of my qualities important for the role of head leader include determination, an attribute that I have adopted or learned over my many years in Panmure Bridge School. Think about it, you wouldn’t want a leader to perform a poor job and surrender half way there? Would you?
To me, given the title of ‘leader’ does not mean to just be named, no. But to guide people through their learning journey.
Being a leader of Panmure Bridge school means representing our school with a high standard. I am a confident girl that wears our school uniform with pride. As a leader, I will also remember to always fulfil my responsibilities and to look after you, no matter what race, gender, size or age you are! Respecting teachers, visitors, students and the school is my main priority, whether I’m leader or not. This year I have participated in kiwi sport and made sure that everyone was encouraged and that they were doing the right thing. I motivated them so that they never felt discouraged and that they don’t think that they aren’t a worthy player.
Whatever happens, I will always be respectful and follow our CARE values. Being leader is a big opportunity and is a massive deal to me. If I do make the position, I will fulfil all the responsibilities and always have a smile on my face. Please, consider me as your vote, I promise I won’t let you down.

This year I have been nominated for head girl. This week the leader nominations wrote a speech about why they should be in the position of being a student leader in Panmure Bridge school. Today we said our speeches infront of LS2. I was nervous but tried my hardest when it was my turn. All of the eyes of LS2 were looking at me, but I still recited my speech. I mumbled a few times, but tried to focus on the speech. I then remembered that this was my goal for over 1/2 years, so I tried harder and harder to focus and recite the speech more confidently. After all the speeches were done, the student leaders and the year 7's then voted.

Procedural Writing about Straw Rockets

Last week on Friday, LS2 went to Tamaki College to make paper models and straw models of rockets. We first made straw rockets using two pieces of straw, one thick one thin, sellotape, scissors and rocket fins (paper). I had to write in procedural writing the steps.

Tahuna Torea Visit

This is a Prezi that Zahra, Zeba and I made. This is everything we learned at Tahuna Torea. We went to Tahuna Torea to try to find some Godwits returning from their migration flight, but unfortunately we didn't, but we still saw many other things like, different birds, guano and learning about their habitat.

Tahuna Torea Trip

Yesterday we went to Tahuna Torea to look at the birds and see if we can spot a Godwit. We first ate, and played on the park. After playing on the park, we then had a walk on the Tahuna Torea path to see if there were any Godwits. We had to make a reflection about our learning at Tahuna Torea. We saw Guano (Bird turd) and different birds and plants.

Greater than - Less than - Equal Maths

Today for maths we were revising our knowledge with the > = < signs. These signs shows us which number is bigger, smaller or if the number is the same.

Straw Rockets

Last week on Friday LS2 spent the whole day at Tamaki college to learn and make rockets. We learnt how to make straw rockets. This is my procedural writing for making a straw rocket. After making rockets, Ms Ferguson flew her rocket 'Carrot' that she 3D printed, it flew up perfectly, but dissapered! It was very fun! I also added a collage of what happened at Tamaki college.

Thank you to Ms Ferguson, and Mr Dunn for putting so much effort for Friday!

Multimodel Reading

This week for reading, we were looking at the Kuaka's migration. We got put into groups, in my group Gozan, Harry, Lathem, Cecillia, AJ, Lyndon, Breeana and me. We used our prior knowledge to talk about what transport we use to get overseas today, 30 years ago and 100 years ago.

Rocket Learning at Tamaki College

Last week, on Friday LS2 went to Tamaki College to build paper models of rockets. We first tried making the straw rockets, using drinking straws, tape, and scissors. Our teachers Ms Ferguson and Mr Dunn taught and guided us through the process. For the first straw rocket we had no fins to see our distance, we then added more and more fins and saw that there was a difference since we added fins. I learned that the more fins you add, the further it goes.

Teaching Ma'ata

This is my task for my attitude badge. I had to pay it forward, so I thought that I could teach Ma'ata how to solve 29 x 2. It was hard for me to explain but she finally understood. I think this was the best task from the attitude tasks because I had fun and talked to Ma'ata.

Malala Yousafzai's Positive Attitude

This is my DLO talking about Malala Yousafzai's positive attitude. This was for my attitude badge. I had to talk about her positive attitude although her despite her difficulties she has faced. Staying Cyber Safe - CARE awards

This is my DLO talking about keeping Cyber Safe. This is for my Confidence badge. I talked about the age limits with social media accounts as it is a big deal if you're under-aged. I also talked about pop-up ads because sometimes they're not suitable for younger kids or cause viruses.

Leader Nominations

Today we had our leader nominations for 2017 in Panmure Bridge school. The year 7's chose people they believed would be great student leaders, we then will choose 6 people from the different areas (Manaiakalani, Sports, Head Students,) one boy and one girl each area that had the values of being trustworthy, that can speak clearly, confidently and with expression and that is enthusiastic. We chose people who will motivate and interest people while saying speeches, and that will get involved.

Respecting Pictures

This DLO has photos that are showing respect. This is for my respect badge, I had to find some images that have people respecting. I also added a photo showing me attributing, I added this image because I was respecting the person who took or allowed the photo to be used.

Athletics Day PBS

Today we had the Panmure Bridge school athletics day for 2016. This year we were super lucky and had some helpers from Tamaki college who were guiding and helping with our activities. This year we were split up into three groups, and the leaders were Mishaan, Mia and Javeylor. The game that the year 7's played first was basketball/netball shoots were two teams would be on the court and have to shoot their balls in the hoops. One team would be on the side lines cheering on each team. Even when someone failed to shoot, each team would be supportive and help by encouraging each other on. I really enjoyed working with my team as they encouraged everyone.

Jean Batten's Excellence and Innovation

This DLO talks about Jean Batten and her excellence and innovation. I had to research a New Zealander who has shown excellence and innovation and I thought I could research Jean Batten. This was for my Excellence and Innovation badge.

Respect Song

In 1964/1965 a song called 'Respect' was released by Otis Redding. The song was sung by Aretha Franklin confidently in 1967 and signature song for the R&B singer Aretha Franklin. This song is about getting respect from their 'man' and having the same equal rights to men. This song is sung by many people like Kelly Clarkson in 2002.

Cyber Smart

Today we have been playing the Cyber Smart game. In this follow up, I was learning more about keyboard shortcuts which could help me in the future.

Paper Planes Competition

Today we were learning to analyse and measure for maths. We redesigned our group planes by adding details and ideas from our groups' individual planes. In our group, we chose our best plane thrower so that they can beat the other opponents, we chose Tai as his arm movement was faster. When everyone finished their throwing, we then measured accurately our paper plane distance. They all had three tries, and in the end, we opened the windows and doors to see the difference between the three other tries.

Paper Planes

Yesterday for maths we were collaboratively working with our groups given by Mrs Anderson making paper planes. This activity was a silent collaborative challenge, where Mrs Anderson didn't talk, but she did put all the instructions on a presentation which we all had to follow very carefully. I worked with Sebastian, Oh Hsen, Tai, Breeana and Calvin designing different types of paper planes. We went on YouTube videos, websites and images to make our paper planes. When we all finished our design, we went outside to trial and measure (with our feet) how far it flew. Our whole group was helping each other and having so much fun. The plane that went furtherest was Tai's and Breeana's.

Wright Brothers Facts Sheet

For reading, we have been focusing on the four structures in reading. Scaffold text, complimentary text, challenge text and self selected text. For our second activity we had to make a facts sheet about the Wright brothers.

Godwits DLO

This term we have been looking at flight, the year 7's have been learning about Godwits (Kuaka in Maori). We were learning about their migration, I worked collaboratively with Calvin and Oh Hsen and improved our team work skills. When we were researching, we had to narrow our search so that we can get the information needed, and putting the keywords only. I learnt that the Godwits migrate from Auckland to Alaska non stop, but stop at the yellow sea to refuel. We also tried something new, we made a digital sketchnote where we used shapes and text boxes.

Mona Lisa Smart Searching

This week we had a mini inquiry. We chose our topic by an alphabet generator, we ended up with a letter and chose our topic we could search about. I ended up with the letter 'm' and chose to talk about Mona Lisa. I then had three questions about the topic. We added should, could and might in our questions so it's more of a opened question. We then had to research and make a sketch note. When we were researching, we were using the skills that Mrs Ogilvie taught us. We had to narrow the search, and take the useless words out.

3D Shapes

Today for tech, we were learning about the different 3D shapes, we learnt how to make a cube. We made a cube using an isometric paper to make a cube with the lines. The trick is to get a piece of white plain paper and put it on top of the isometric paper and make a cube with it by simply adding three lines together to make a diamond shape, then adding four lines together so that it can be a 3D cube.

Narrowing a Search

This week we have been learning about narrowing a search. Mrs Ogilvie came to the library to talk to us about  being cyber smart. This will help us find the ideal information we want.

Reading Test Strategies

Inspector Gadget and Feet for Flight

For reading this week, we were practicing our test strategies for our upcoming tests in week 3/4 with two texts. We read two reviews about Inspector Gadget and Feet for Flight and used all our strategies to answer the questions. We had to read the instructions very carefully, we had to look at the questions so we knew what we were looking for in the text, read every word instead of skimming and scanning, once we're done, read the text again just to find the actual answer, eliminate the answers you know aren't correct and choose the best answer you think is right.

Rhythm Interactive

Today (Room 5, LS1, and LS2) we had a session of Rhythm Interactive with Lucy and Johnnie. It was very interesting because Lucy and Johnnie didn't talk because they said that 'actions speak louder than words.' We had to listen and follow the beat that Lucy and Johnnie did. We had to learn 3 rhythms by clapping it with out hands, to get it in our head. We learnt some songs and how to play the drum with them, these songs were translated into English; 'Together we can change,' was a sentence from a song we sang.   Lucy and Johnnie are partners who travel to spread the message of; 'actions speak louder than words.'

A big thank you to Lucy and Johnnie for coming, and also giving us a drum for our music room.

Leadership Tagul

This term we are focusing on leadership, this is because next year we will all be leaders as we're going to be year 8's. We were looking at qualities and different role models. We had answers like 'Mum' or 'Nelson Mandela'. We used 'tagul' to make our word cloud. We found out that leaders all make mistakes, but learn from them. In the end, we all had our own role models, these models all had different qualities.

Quick Write

Today, for writing we were writing a quick narrative with 6 (Max) sentences. We had to be very imaginative and creative. A story starter we used was, 'Once upon a time...' We did this activity to improve our narrative writing, or recapping what we were learning about narrative for next term.

Quizizz's-Maths

Today for maths we were playing quizizz's. We were learning our multiplication, addition and subtraction the fun way. We had a code to enter to join a certain quiz (Miss Naicker's one that she set). We had almost 20 or 10 seconds to answer each question. We had our ranks, these were based on our the questions we answered. After a while, Mrs Anderson and Miss Naicker joined the race. Mrs Anderson came first. We did this because we were challenging each other, and it's a very fun way to learn your basic facts.
