Samoan Language Week - Main Idea

Since it is Samoan Language Week, Mrs Anderson created some activities about Samoa's traditions/culture. For this activity, we listened to a speech by Mata'afa Elia Autagavaia talking about how we should preserve the old traditions of the Samoan dances, and to tell the next generation how to correctly dance in Samoa.  

BEDMAS - Order of Operation

LI: Order of Operation

In maths we have been learning about the order of operation or BEDMAS. BEDMAS contains of Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction. I knew about BEDMAS so it wasn't as challenging but it was great revising it.

Different Types of Clocks - Tech @ Tamaki College

At tech we started our new rotations. The year 8's went to Ms Ferguson. In this rotation, we will be making clocks. Today we were looking at the different types of clocks such as the digital clocks and alarm clocks etc. 

Dance - Exploring Shapes

Today for dance we were exploring angles, shapes, and levels. My partner and I watched a YouTube clip which gave us amazing ideas on what shapes we could use for our dance routine. We tried to copy some dance moves but some were very difficult, while others were really simple. We  had to keep our bodies in order to transition to another move. 

Statics - What sort of litter are we dropping?

In Inquiry we were adding up statics about rubbish in Auckland. Javeylor and I were looking at the amount of rubbish that Auckland citizens are dropping. It was interesting because the litter that we are dropping most is wrappers. 

Main Ideas - Recycling

In reading, we watched a video based on recycling. After watching the video we were told to figure out which idea was vital, very important or just important. After watching this video, I was convinced one of the vital ideas was to put the correct items into the recycling bin, aswell as clean items since it could get the workers sick. 

Summarizing

In reading we were focusing on how to summarize. A summary is like a shorter version of a text. We read an article called, "Eco Rangers Save The Planet". After reading parts of the text, we wrote down 20 important words from the text, then we lowered it down to 6, then created a short summary using them.
