Since it is Samoan Language Week, Mrs Anderson created some activities about Samoa's traditions/culture. For this activity, we listened to a speech by Mata'afa Elia Autagavaia talking about how we should preserve the old traditions of the Samoan dances, and to tell the next generation how to correctly dance in Samoa.
I am a Year8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick.

Main Ideas - Recycling
In reading, we watched a video based on recycling. After watching the video we were told to figure out which idea was vital, very important or just important. After watching this video, I was convinced one of the vital ideas was to put the correct items into the recycling bin, aswell as clean items since it could get the workers sick.
Summarizing
In reading we were focusing on how to summarize. A summary is like a shorter version of a text. We read an article called, "Eco Rangers Save The Planet". After reading parts of the text, we wrote down 20 important words from the text, then we lowered it down to 6, then created a short summary using them.
Metaphors
Today in writing we were focusing on metaphors. A metaphor compares two different things from one another. Example: She is a walking dictionary, this could probably mean that she is very educated with her vocabulary.
Fractions
Today we played a game based on fractions. I thought this game was helpful since it revised my fractions knowledge.

Dance - Free Flow and Bound Flow
For dance today we looked at free flow and bound flow dance moves. Free flow is when you move freely using your bones. It felt as if we were imitating snakes. While bound flow is when you move like a robot, using your muscles. Mia and I made shapes like circles, triangles and squares with our arms. We used different levels for each shape. The hardest shape was the triangle since our hands had to be straight. The easiest shape was a circle since it was curved. Next week I am hoping to create new shapes like a heart or a diamond.
Should People Use Sports To Promote Change? - My Opinion
Yesterday Fifta, Zahra, Mia and I read an article "Tour Like No Other". This article discussed the protest that was made to stop the Springboks from playing with the All Blacks because of the segregation between the different races. The Springboks is the South African rugby team, and the All Blacks is the New Zealand rugby team. After finishing the article and watching some videos, we were asked to make an informed opinion. Should people use sports to promote change?

E-ako Maths - Multiplication and Division
Today for e-ako maths, I focused on my multiplication and division. I played a game which asks me multiplication and division questions which needs to be answered in 1 minute. Next time, I should work on harder and more challenging activities.
World of Maths
Yesterday Charles from the World of Maths came to Panmure Bridge School. He brought some fun games that were based on maths. We were split into groups with LS2 and LS1 students, in my group were; Mishaan, Fifita, Alice, and Sakina. The first game that my group played was Mouse in the House. Mouse in the House was challenging our logic and reasoning skills. My favorite game was Which Way Home. This game was challenging my addition facts. It was easy, but very fun because everyone joined in. What I enjoyed most about yesterday was the amount of teamwork and collaboration.

Reducing Organic Waste
This DLO talks about ways I can reduce my organic waste. One way I personally could reduce organic waste is to plan my meals for the week. This helps as it prevents me from throwing out my organic wastes such as lettuce, and using it instead in meals.

Music - Dance T2W2
This term for music, we are focusing on dance. Mishaan, Mia, and I made our own warm up routine today. A warm up helps loosen our muscles, and increases our heart rate, our breathing, and our flexibility which helps our body when we are doing sports and dancing etc. Next week, I think I need to talk more and share more ideas to my group.
Taekwondo - T2W2
Today was our first session of taekwando. Taekwando is a Korean martial art. Steve taught us how to punch and kick fast. I am looking forward to what Steve will teach us next week.
Personal Passion
My personal passion is playing soccer. This is one of my Excellence and Innovation CARE award tasks. I think I have improved on soccer this year since I am playing more often.

Speech Bubbles In Graphic Novels
In a graphic novel, you must have speech bubbles. This shows us how someone is talking, if the radio is 'talking', if someone is thinking, if someone is singing or what the time is. For an example: if it is the next day or later that day, it would be in this speech bubble:
Making Connections - "When The Wind Blows"
After we finished reading "When The Wind Blows" we made connections with this text to a text, with the world, and our reaction to the story.
True/False - When The Wind Blows
Distinguishing Fact from Fiction
There are some elements of the story that are true and based on real events.
Sort these Story elements into Fact and Fiction:
There was a cold war between former allies - True
Nuclear fallout can kill you after the bomb has gone off - True
England was afraid of a Russian / American nuclear war - True
America is a democracy - True
There was a nuclear arms race - True (America and Ru ssia)
People believed in Mutually Assured Destruction- True
The Russians let off a nuclear bomb - False
Russia is a democracy - False
After 14 days you can leave the nuclear fallout shelter - False
A nuclear refuge (like the one in the book) would protect you - False
We read a graphic novel that had some true facts the cold war, but some of the facts were false. I highlighted the false facts red, and the true facts true.
Problem Solving - Doubling & Halving
LI: To use known and try new strategies to answer math questions.
For maths we are focusing on strategies. We were looking at doubling and halving. I thought that this activity was easy because I know how to double and half, but it was good revising the strategy since it might be helpful.

Ivory Trade Ban - China Current Events
In this activity we were looking at current events, in particular the ban of ivory in China. China is planning to ban ivory trades by the end of 2017. They are doing this because they are trying to prevent elephant extinction from happening. To ban ivory trades, they are closing down 24 factories and 128 shops. I feel as if this is a good thing, but at the same time a bad thing, since tons of people would lose their job.
